Food Network Addict

I'm sure many people know that I loooooove watching the Food Network and I think I have even posted my fave shows on the Food Network. I've also noticed that lots of people are catching on to the phenomenon that is the Food Network. I can't even begin to describe how great that channel really is. Not only is it entertaining but its instructive. It makes you want to cook (or eat) really great food. My mother is a fabulous cook. She can feed 20 people at a drop of a hat, without breaking a sweat and all those other cliche sayings. But I never feel motivated to cook when my mother is cooking...why? because she is particular about how she does things in the kitchen, if you interfere with the system then get out of the kitchen. I'm a non conformist, I don't like following other people's instructions unless its necessary. For example when my mom was teaching me how to make tortillas, she would go over and over how to do it, how to roll the dough, how to pat the tortilla, what direction I turned the tortilla, and what did I do? The exact opposite. She made them large, I made them small, she made them thin, I made them thick, she made them go in one direction and I'd go the other way! and get this, my father loved the way I made them, he said it reminded him of how they would do them in El Salvador. I digress...

Food Network is great because I can see how they do it and try it at my own pace. And some recipes are easy to do (I'm not the biggest fan of Rachael Ray and her 30 min meals just because I find her annoying at times) but Sandra Lee probably has the best show out there for us slackers that want shortcuts. Granted, I can't stand Sandra Lee (will it hurt her to put on a bra??? Seriously) But she makes really good stuff and also shows how to decorate and always has some alcoholic drink on hand. That's what I'm talking about!!
