Laundry Day
I don't have a specific laundry day. When I was growing up, cleaning day was on a Friday. We cleaned the bathroom, the basement, the living room, our rooms (my sister and I) and of course laundry. We would have to wash our bed sheets, pillowcases, etc. It was a rule, almost becoming a tradition that friday is cleaning day. We couldn't do anything else on the weekend unless all our chores were done. When I think about it now, it really is a great rule. If I ever have children, I might do the same... but at the time, I was so annoyed by it because it was the end of the week, I was tired, and I really didn't want to be cleaning. I didn't fully grasp the concept of cleaning and why it was so important. I felt that you could spend at least 2 weeks without doing laundry or cleaning the bathroom....
no sir'ee!!! That's disgusting, if you even go 2 days w/o cleaning the bathroom. I later in life learned that my mom cleaned the bathroom every 3 days. The deep cleaning was on Friday which is what my sister and I did.
But laundry is something that I DREADED doing. Mind you, I've been to El Salvador and have seen that when they say its laundry day, its piles of clothes, the whole family's clothes (and the families are not 4 members only...) and it was a whole day at the nearest pond, if you lived in the country, or you had your own water supply cement block thing and place to wash you clothes at your house, if you are in the city. It was time consuming, tiredsome, your hands turned all wrinkly, you smell like bleach, you are sweating like none other and don't even get me started on washing jeans. Those things weigh a ton when you put them in water. So I know that I have it waaay easy in US of A. Just stick it in the washer, do other things, then stick them in the dryer, do other things, then fold them and put them in drawers and presto! you're done! If it is that easy, why do I let days..... weeks........ sometimes months go by w/o doing laundry? I am one of those people that if I run of of underwear, I swear that I just don't have enough and buy more. Or if I don't have clean clothes, its because, again, I don't have enough clothes. That is NOT the best idea because years later, your closet will bust and you have a room full of clothes, no space and waking up with a shoe in your face. (true story)
Which brings me to my thought of the day: I need a laundry day.
